Some Little Secrets for BIG Racing Success…..

Just a little something that I stumbled across while cleaning out my Basketball Coaching files and thought that some of the younger racers (But it certainly won’t hurt the older ones) might find this of good use while progressing in their careers…I edited it so that it would work with racing and life, I hope you enjoy it….

“Excellence is not a singular act, but a habit. You are what you repeatedly do.”–Aristotle

To be successful in racing and if life you have to have goals, you have to decide that you want a particular goal – you must then be 100% committed to finding a way to achieve it.  Then with self motivation and discipline you will be able to start working on attaining your goal. Discipline is not easy, but to get to any worthwhile “Lap,” you must go around the “The Whole Track”, No cheating, No shortcuts. Discipline is the “Entire Lap.” You can get whatever you want in racing & life if you have enough COURAGE, MOTIVATION, & DISCIPLINE.  It’s the discipline that will take you to your goals.

DISCIPLINE is hustle & sweat, it’s fighting through pain and bad finishes… It’s eliminating excuses… It’s attention to details… It’s consistency… It’s working hard without having to be asked…It’s doing the extra things when you really don’t feel like it…It’s willing to go above and beyond to do the things that others are not willing to do, it’s not accepting good enough and staying until it is perfect, It’s making the work fun when it’s really not very fun and you’d rather be doing something else, it’s doing things the right way EVERY TIME, ALL THE TIME, and much more. The sad thing is too many racers lack a clear understanding  of what discipline really is, that’s why there are only a few GREAT racers, some GOOD racers, and a whole bunch of JUST racers…the difference is each one’s understanding and application of discipline.  DISCIPLINE is paying for painful things now in order get back pleasurable things later. It is accepting responsibility for the results you are getting now and dedicating yourself to reality so that you can figure out what’s working and what isn’t so that you can change or fix what isn’t working and get yourself back on track to reaching your goal. DISCIPLINE requires stringent self-examination, a willingness to be challenged, and relentless honesty. Then, you must choose your course of action, which requires flexibility, good judgment, & courage. With discipline, you can work and race both HARDER and SMARTER.

Racing & Life are a lot a like, both are very challenging… even difficult at times…But when you learn to take things one step at a time, learn to work hard and believe in yourself and learn to be open minded so that you are learning every step of the way, amazing results start becoming more and more the norm. DISCIPLINE is Leadership & Leadership is worrying about YOU & making sure that YOU are doing what you need to be doing and not worrying about everybody else and leading by example, then continuing to lead by helping others learn to give the best of themselves..usually best done by action and NOT talk

Being successful in racing or in life requires that you follow 2 sets of 3’s…NEVER lie, cheat, or steal…DON”T whine, complain, or make excuses… and work to the best of your ability to live up to these 8 creeds…1) Be true to yourself  2) Help others  3) Make each day your masterpiece  4) Drink deeply from good books, especially the bible  5) Make friendship a fine art  6) Build shelter against a rainy day 7) Strive for perfection but never expect it  8) Pray for guidence and count & give thanks for your blessings everyday.

I firmly believe that if a racer lives by these rules with DISCIPLINE his/her racing as well as life future is sure to bring more success than ever imagined.

These are some of the best Racing (and life) quotes I have ever heard…Pin em’ up in your trailer, tool box or where ever…but pin em’ up to help get the best out of your team and yourself…substitute the word race or the correct word for whatever it is you are doing……
